Can Mean a Life of Misery or No Life At All!
So many people don't realize that it is actually dan-
gerous to advertise dogs, cats, etc., this way!
Backyard breeders check for ads like this all the time
both on the internet and in newspapers. They don't
want to pay for a dog or for its health care or keep-
ing its quarters clean so they jump on any ad that
offers a dog for free.
If the dog being offered is capable of breeding, the
chances that it will end up in a puppy mill or back-
yard breeder's kennel are enormous. The people
who run these places are very adept at presenting
themselves as just folks who want a dog for the fam-
ily; one notorious puppy miller was known to take his
little granddaughter with him as he visited the homes
of people offering intact dogs for free or for very little
money. The idea was to convince the owners that
the dog would become the beloved pet of the little
girl. Instead, the dogs ended up in his filthy mill be-
ing bred literally to death.
But even if the dog has been spayed or neutered, it
is still in danger. Some people, referred to as "col-
lectors" or "hoarders," have an impulse to gather as
many dogs as possible. Why? Who knows? It isn't
so that they can be well cared for! It seems to be a
need just to have them.
Also people who have large snakes (who eat only
live food) will take free puppies, kittens and other
small pets as food. In addition, people who breed
pit bulls for fighting also use free animals for training
(bait), bait to train greyhounds, fish bait, money from
a research laboratory, sacrifice for satanic rituals
and innocent victims for malicious pranks!
Do you want your dog to end up in a filthy kennel,
neglected and possibly abused?
Please don't ever advertise any pet as "free to a
good home!" If you must find a new home for your
pet take the following steps:
Ask a standard fee.
·
Ask a lot of questions and be sure to check valid
·
references (including a reference from a veteri-
narian) for the potential adopter.
Make a home visit to their environment.
·
Spay or neuter before adoption.
·
Have new pet meet any existing animals in the
·
home/check behaviors.
Require (in writing) that if the adoption does not
·
work out for any reason, the animal MUST BE
returned to you. Better yet, contact your local Hu-
mane Society or a rescue group for assistance.
Their sole mission and reason for being is to find
safe, secure and loving homes for animals that
don't have them.
"free to good home"
for the love of birds
Birds love kitchen scraps and leftovers. Kitchen
scraps are rich in carbohydrates birds need dur-
ing the winter. Use brown breads because they are
the most healthy for birds. Soak the bread in warm
water before you put it out. Stale cake, donuts, and
cookies are high in fat and good for birds during
wintertime. Add any cooked pasta or rice to your
scrap feeder.
Birds love noodles and cooked potatoes. This adds
nutrition on cold days and nights. Birds also love
stale cheese. Add it to the crumbs or suet mixtures
in small pieces. Steer away from white and blue
cheeses. Different fruits and nuts attract different
species.
Experiment with oranges, bananas, almonds, pea-
nuts, walnuts, and filberts to see which birds you
attract. Some birds also love apple slices.
