There are a number of organizations that help find forever
homes for neglected, lost, and abandoned pets... but that
is just the beginning.
Location - Rescues find forgotten pets all around the
country. Even local rescues reach as far as the Missis-
sippi to bring pets here. Recently a local rescue traveled to
North Carolina to pick up 30 puppies found in deteriorated
conditions.
Foster - Fostering includes feeding, caring for, and pro-
viding medical treatment. Most rescues ensure that pets
are neutered, spayed and have their shots before sending
them to new homes. Sometimes other medical conditions
must be addressed. A local rescue recently covered a
cornea operation for a puppy mill Pomeranian. This was
expensive, but worth saving the pups life. He is now in a
forever home with two other `Poms'.
Support - These costs are why rescues raise money in
front of pet & pet-friendly stores. They rely on donations
to continue to help these animals. The next time you see
a rescue - take a minute to meet their pets & volunteers
and to make a donation to help those that cannot speak
for themselves!
